Apply to be a personal care attendant
Applying takes one phone call. We will tell you what happens next, what paperwork is involved, and roughly how long screening takes.
How do I apply for a caregiver job in St. Louis?
Call us — the fastest route. Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM Central.
Text us with your name and the best time to reach you, and we will call you back.
Email info@communicareelite.com with your name, phone number and the area of St. Louis you can work in.
Do not send personal identifiers by text or email — no Social Security number, no date of birth, no driver’s license number, no health information. Text and email are not secure. We will collect what we need properly once we speak.
Tell us these things when you call
- Your name and a phone number that reaches you.
- Whether you already have someone you will be caring for, or want to be matched.
- Which parts of the St. Louis area you can reliably travel to.
- Roughly how many hours a week you can commit to.
- Whether you drive and have a vehicle available.
- Any caregiving experience — useful, though not required.
What happens after I apply to be a personal care attendant?
- We talk. A short conversation about what you are looking for and what the work involves.
- Paperwork. Employment forms, tax withholding forms and identity/work authorization documents.
- Background screening. Required before you may work. This is usually the longest step. What is checked.
- Orientation. What the job covers, what it does not, how timesheets and EVV work, and your obligations under the program. Note that we orient you to the program while the person you care for trains you on their own care — that split catches most people by surprise.
- Matching, if you need it. If you are not already hired by someone, we introduce you to consumers who are looking. They make the hiring decision.
- Start work. Once you are cleared, onboarded, and hired by a consumer with an authorized care plan.
An honest note about timing. Two things gate your start date and neither is fully in our control: your background screening, and whether the person you will care for has an authorized care plan from the state. We will tell you where you stand rather than string you along.
How do I get paid to care for a family member in Missouri?
Tell us on the first call that you already care for a family member or friend. If they are not yet enrolled in CDS, they will need an assessment from the Department of Health and Senior Services first — we can walk both of you through it, and start your screening in parallel so nothing waits in sequence.

Still deciding? The attendant FAQ covers pay, hours, background screening and getting paid to care for a family member, and training and orientation explains what you will actually be taught.
Frequently asked questions
Can I apply for a caregiver job in St. Louis with no experience?
Yes. Caregiving experience is useful, but it is not required. When you call, tell us your name and number, whether you already have someone to care for or want to be matched, which parts of the St. Louis area you can reliably reach, roughly how many hours a week you can commit to, and whether you drive.
How long does it take to start working as a caregiver?
Two things set your start date, and neither is fully in our control: your background screening, which is usually the longest step, and whether the person you will care for has an authorized care plan from the state. You start once you are cleared, onboarded and hired by a consumer with that plan. We tell you where you stand at every step.
Should I text or email my Social Security number to apply?
No. Do not send a Social Security number, date of birth, driver’s license number or any health information by text or email, because neither is secure. Send only your name, phone number and the area of St. Louis you can work in. We collect everything else properly once we speak by phone.
Do I have to find my own client before I apply?
No. If you already care for someone, say so on the first call and we start your screening while they go through their own assessment. If you do not, we introduce you to consumers who are looking for an attendant. They make the hiring decision.
